The yellow sac spider is the most common house spider found in Medina, Akron, and Cleveland homes. Only 1/4 of an inch in size, these pale yellowish-green spiders create small white sacks on furniture, walls, and edge trim, but these sacs don’t hold eggs. Instead, the spiders hide in these sacs, coming out after dark to hunt for food.

Yellow sac spiders rarely bite, and if they do, the venom typically causes no more than a small itchy welt.

Also common to communities in Stark, Summit and Medina counties is the wolf spider, which will almost always favor outdoor areas unless the weather becomes cold. The wolf spider can be up to two inches in diameter, with long hairy legs, but despite its scary appearance, it is not dangerous. Like the yellow sac spider, the wolf spider rarely bites, and its venom is not lethal.
